Wolverine Origins 7- Romulus
After 9 days being in Russia, Logan contacts Russian defense minister Konstantinov and blackmails him into broadcasting fake footage of Logan in Russian cities and towns where Wolverine actually isn’t so he can track Romulus
With Daken playing Wolverine in the Dark Avengers, Logan is free to go after Romulus by tracking Victor Hudson
Wolverine follows Victor on a train to Krasnoyarsk into a prison where he is ambushed by Omega Red, realizing it was a setup
Victor had brought Omega Red the carbonadium synthesizer and Romulus very cunningly had him placed there to suck the life energies off the inmates therefore obtaining strength more than sufficient enough to deal with Wolverine
Wolverine cleverly gets OR to stand under an open cell and closes the bars, impaling him. He takes the c-synth and leaves OR bleeding knowing he’ll sap the life forces of the inmates to rejuvenate
Weakened, Wolverine faints in the snow and is found by Wild Child. He then wakes above a magma container which Wild Child intends to dip him into. Wild Child then helps Logan realize that Romulus has been manipulating Nuke, Daken, Sabretooth, Cyber, Omega Red, Wild Child, and himself since the very beginning
Romulus intended for each of them to take each other out, leaving a victor and a successor to his legacy. Logan realizes he’s still a pawn when he realizes that this vendetta is what Romulus wanted him to do
OR arrives on cue demanding the c-synth while Wolverine escapes. OR impales Wild Child with his tentacles and throws him into the magma container. He now has the c-synth
OR tracks Wolverine to a warehouse in St. Petersburg to eliminate him but Wolverine tells him he won’t fight him for Romulus’ position. As soon as OR mentions going after Daken, Logan wields the Muramasa which was stored in the storehouse
Wolverine impales OR who falls to the ground and dies but before that, OR questions if the Muramasa can even kill Romulus to which Logan responds that it can. Out of nowhere, Romulus appears behind Wolverine and says “We’ll see”
They fight and at first Romulus has the upper hand until Logan uses psychological tactics and triggers Romulus by telling him he needs to be in control and that it’s not Wolverine who will become what Romulus is but Romulus wanting to be like Wolverine because he is afraid of death
Wolverine slashes Romulus across the abdomen but non-fatally and allows him to live, not giving him the satisfaction of being his dog anymore. Romulus cannot heal
By claiming that he wants to live ‘forever’ he means that he intends for either Logan or Daken to kill him and because Logan will not be a puppet any longer, Romulus has ensured a successor through Daken who he molded his entire life to be a remorseless killer. Daken and Wolverine will have to fight as Daken desires to be the only one left standing
Romulus knocks Logan out with the Muramasa when he has his back turned and tells him to keep it as he will be needing it later
