Doctor Strange

A new saga unfolds as the post Civil War era commences and introduces us to Stephen Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. Supposedly it is mysticism and not magic that the Ancient One teaches Strange in Nepal. Strange, whose entire life changed after being in a car crash, and was a former neurosurgeon, learns how to project himself into astral form as well as learning how to create portals as shortcuts to other locations on Earth. Doctor Strange can be classified as one who uses the mystic arts because his abilities are drawn from the power of the spirit whereas Loki’s abilities are not spirit drawn and are considered magic such as being able to go invisible, create copies of himself and create illusions. 

In this film, the fifth Infinity Stone emerges- the Time Stone which is contained inside the Eye of Agamotto, which has time-bending properties as witnessed in the film. 

Alternate dimensions again proving the existence of a Multiverse are explained- The Mirror Dimension which parallels the normal world and which can be reshaped but without consequence to the real world, and the Dark Dimension where another very essential Marvel villain Dormammu, resides without shape or form. 

Dormammu is the archenemy of Doctor Strange in the comics and Baron Mordo, the Ancient One’s other pupil who fought alongside Strange in the film and then walked away at the end, becomes a pupil of Dormammu as well as an adversary to Strange. The villain of the film is Kaecilius who made a good villain but sadly left no real lasting impact in the MCU. 

The end credits of the film show a tie into the next major event of the MCU which is Ragnarok- the end of all things on Asgard, as Thor seeks Strange’s help to find Odin who has been cast down to Earth but by who we don’t know but we all presume that it is Loki.
