The Death of Captain Marvel
(This first section occurs pre Kree-Skrull War)
Begins by showing Mar-vell’s history with Earth
He was tasked by Colonel Yon-Rogg to undertake a reconnoitre mission on humans to determine if they are a threat to the Kree as it was the Fantastic Four who had previously defeated a Kree sentry and Ronan The Accuser
Yon Rogg sends him planetside alone hoping he would be killed as he covets Mar-vell’s lover Una
Yon Rogg embeds a wrist monitor on Mar-vell’s arm to keep track of him at all times
Mar-vell makes his way to rendezvous with Yon Rogg who’s inside the starship and fires the ship’s laser at Mar-vell as he approaches closer hoping to make it look accidental. A misfortunate plane is downed instead, killing the pilot. Mar-vell assumes the man’s identity becoming Walter Lawson and uses the alias to infiltrate a missile guidance systems base to aid him in his mission
The next morning he is in the base and studying the physics of the MGS. General Bridges admits him into the site where the Kree sentry is stored because of Lawson’s expertise on guidance systems and robotics
We are introduced to Carol Danvers who is the head of security at the base
The Kree sentry, which has the ability to self-repair, is awakened and revitalized manually by Yon Rogg and begins attacking the base
Mar-vell and the sentry battle. Mar-vell defeats it by using his Uni-beam to implode it
Yon Rogg contacts Ronan to inform him of Mar-vell’s defection but is merely berated for sabotaging a Kree mission by making it personal. Ronan warns him he will face judgment if he jeopardizes it again
Mar-vell reflects on his heroic act and what the humans would think if they found out he’s not exactly their ally
The plot cuts to the present time. Thanos has just been defeated by Adam Warlock & Mar-vell, and Drax has a vendetta against Mar-vell whom Drax feels has taken his destiny by killing Thanos when it was his right after Thanos murdered his wife and daughter. His daughter, Heather Douglas, was resurrected and transformed into Moondragon by Thanos’ father Mentor
The villain Nitro attacks the MGB where Mar-vell first impersonated Walter Lawson years ago and steals a weapon of destruction
Rick Jones happens to cross paths with him while travelling and trades atoms with Mar-vell so he can battle him. Rick takes Nitro to the Negative Zone with him when they trade as Mar-vell rushes to close the exposed nerve gas leak from the weapon exposing himself in the process
The next story portrays how Rick Jones, Mar-Vell, Guthrie, and Drax liberated the Eternals on Titan
Attempting to land on Titan, the heroes are ambushed at Saturn’s rings by forces commanded by the Titan A.I, Isaac, who has been programmed by Thanos to commit global genocide
Isaac commands the forces on Saturn’s rings to cause a diversion and lure them down to Saturn where Isaac sends a barrage of missiles to destroy them. Mar-vell and Drax destroy the missiles
Isaac resurrects Stellarax and gives himself a carnate body and resurrects and recruits two other warriors- Chaos and Gaea. He dubs himself Isaac Prime
Isaac Prime teleports them all to Titan where the fight continues. Drax takes Stellarax out who is in turn KOed by Gaea and Chaos who are then taken out by Mar-vell leaving himself and Isaac Prime standing
Isaac comes to his senses through Mar-vell’s abilities somehow and restores the planet’s systems including restoring the oxygen
Two weeks later everyone is celebrating with Dionysus the god of wine and Drax ventures off on his own, retracting his vendetta against Mar-vell for saving his life
Mar-vell is writing an autobiography of his adventures and missions to leave behind as a memoir to his friends because he is dying
He writes of his past such as how Yon-Rogg made several attempts at his life
After the death of his lover Una, Mar-vell defected from the Kree because of their cold and ruthless ways and became a defender for Earth
In the present, Mar-vell, Mentor and Starfox (Thanos’ father and brother respectively), travel beyond Pluto to Thanos’ ship to retrieve his stone corpse and bring it to Titan
Starfox and Mentor notice a physical ailment within Mar-vell and have him examined by Isaac who diagnoses him with cancer
Revealed that it has been 7 years since his encounter with Nitro and that encounter is what caused him to develop cancer. He is told by Mentor he has an estimated 3 months to live
Mar-vell tells his current lover Elysius about the development
He continues to write his story and how it was the Supreme Intelligence who punished him for his treachery by sending him into the Negative Zone. Rick Jones found the Kree Nega-Bands making it possible for the two to communicate and trade places
Mar-vell eventually got payback on Yon- Rogg for Una’s death
After the defeat of Thanos, Mar-vell escaped the Negative Zone permanently
Mar-vell goes to Earth to tell Rick about the bad news who becomes angry and in denial about it. Rick gathers the Avengers at Avengers Mansion to see if they could develop a cure which none of them can and he becomes very distraught
Everyone from the Skrull empire to the Kree empire to the Watcher to the Inhumans to the Avengers finds out
Mar-vell continues to chronicle his life as he relays how Elysius was once an emissary of Thanos who switched sides and helped Mar-vell defeat Chaos and Stellarax in their initial battle
Mar-vell’s Nega-Bands kept the cancer in check for years but the cancer has now developed an immunity. The bands must be removed for him to be cured but because they are his only source of sustenance, removing them would be detrimental to his health so he must keep them on plus his photonic powers negate any cures regardless
Many of Mar-vell’s allies and friends including the X-men and Avengers come and stand vigil
A Skrull general visits him and presents him with a medal of valour as a sign of respect for being his greatest enemy
As Mar-vell is passing to the next world, the deceased spirit of Thanos accompanies him towards Death who leads him into the afterlife
The heroes mourn Mar-vell’s passing and bury him
