The Magus (an evil counterpart of Adam Warlock) is revealed to still exist despite his being thought dead which will be explained later
Magus creates deformed doppelgangers of the heroes and plans to have them take their place in his grand scheme
Galactus enlists the help of Doctor Strange to face the powerful wielder of the energy patterns
Doom teams up with Kang the Conqueror so they can take the power for themselves
Warlock resides on Monster Island (owned by Mole Man) with his Infinity Watch- Gamora, Drax, Pyp the Troll, and Moondragon
Thanos is teleported by Magus to Warlock’s exact location and dimension to have him tell and warn Warlock that he’s still alive
Galactus/Strange/Silver Surfer and Doom/Kang reach the energy patterns at the same time then Doom/Kang follow Galactus’ ship to the source of the power broadcasts
Warlock and the Infinity Watch and Thanos go to the Infinity Well in Lady Death’s palace to find out how the Magus still exists
Living Tribunal forced Warlock to separate the Infinity Gems
They discover that because Warlock wanted to be a purely logical being that the Magus was expelled out of him and came to be
Magus reformed after his supposed death at the crossroads of 5 realities where he gained his power
Avengers hold a meeting led by Mister Fantastic and Moondragon attends since it has to do with Fantastic discovering the energy patterns
Wolverine deduces that Fantastic is a doppelganger and Fantastic bombs HQ of which Invisible Woman contains the blast
Magus and Thanos’ doppelganger appear to take Fantastic and Iron Man with them who was also a doppelganger. Avengers decide to find out what’s going on by investigating Fantastic’s research
Scarlet Witch, Thunderbird, Dr. Druid, and Agatha Harkness team up to get to the source of the energies
Of the 5 locations with energy patterns the Avengers and Infinity Watch/Thanos meet up at the same one
Magus redirects Galactus’ route to where the Avengers and Infinity Watch are
Kang and Doom reach the Magus’ fortress
Discover that the 5 energies are Cosmic Cubes
Galactus transports the Avengers and Infinity Watch onto his ship and performs a cerebral scan to understand what’s been going on as well as the Avengers coming to an understanding that Thanos is working with Warlock
Warlock plans to stop Magus by using the Infinity Gauntlet but cannot because of the Living Tribunal’s prohibition on its use
Galactus takes a member of the Infinity Watch (Gamora) to the Living Tribunal to vouch for Warlock
Magus appears and kidnaps Warlock and takes the Gauntlet away
Thanos deduces that the heroes on Earth are entranced and about to be replaced by the doppelgangers. He deduces this by using Galactus’ computer to read the telemetry off Thor’s hammer
The telepaths in the group (Prof X, Jean Grey, Psylocke, Moondragon) join minds to help their friends and the people of Earth develop psychic resistance against being entranced
Galactus must speak with Eternity and not the Living Tribunal to vouch for Warlock’s use of the Infinity Gauntlet. Galactus gives power to Gamora to remedy Eternity’s catatonic state
While Magus is explaining his grand plan to Warlock, Doom and Kang ambush Magus then Doom pulverizes Kang (again since Secret Wars)
Eternity is healed and proclaims the Gauntlet usable again allowing Magus to reshape reality in his will and prevents Doom from taking it from him at the last second
The Ultimate Nullifier ends up in Magus’s possession which was given to Quasar by Thanos from Galactus’ ship to wipe out Magus
Magus traps all the heroes in an energy bubble
Warlock and Magus go head to head since they can both use the power of the Gauntlet with the cosmic abilities they possess
Warlock appears as the victor and Eternity declares the Infinity Gems to never be brought together again
Magus is incarcerated within Soul World. Thanos returns to his planet. It is revealed Galactus’ herald Nova (Frankie Raye) has taken the Cosmic Cubes
In hindsight, shows what occurred between Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War regarding how the Infinity Watch came to reside on Monster Island
Another hindsight chapter showing that Mistress Death summoned Thanos’ soul to her to tell him to kill Adam Warlock and she will be Thanos’ lover
