Amazing Spider-Man Masterworks Vol. 5

  • Issues 41-50, ASM Annual # 3

  • The Rhino is introduced, Spidey manages to beat him

  • Spidey’s actions are misinterpreted when he takes a bomb out of the bank and is thought to be money

  • John Jameson reveals he was exposed to spores while in space

  • The spores actually give him superhuman abilities but also affect his mind

  • He’s given a special suit by scientists to stabilize his abilities and is put onto Spiderman by his father

  • He’s determined to beat Spiderman even though he knows he didn’t rob the bank

  • Spiderman helps John get back to normal

  • Mary Jane’s face is shown at the end of ASM 42

  • The Avengers decide to test Spiderman for membership into their team

  • They ask Spiderman to try and bring Hulk to them

  • Spidey refuses to join after seeing Hulk turn back into Banner and lets him go

  • Lizard attacks and gets away. In a rematch, Spidey beats him with one arm incapacitated and Connors reunites with his family

  • The Shocker is introduced

  • Revealed that in ASM 34, where Kraven impersonated Spiderman, he was offered 20K by Green Goblin to do it

  • Not receiving his money, Kraven goes after Osborn (he does not know he’s Goblin)

  • Spidey gets involved but Kraven gets away 

  • A man named Blackie Drago dons the Vulture suit as the original lies on his deathbed

  • After Blackie beats Spiderman, Kraven cannot let it stand and goes after him

  • The 3 get entangled and eventually Spidey webs them both up

  • Jameson offers $1000 for the capture of Spiderman 

  • This makes Peter second-guess and doubt his career as Spiderman and throw away his costume in the garbage

  • A new criminal takes hold of all the mobs in Spiderman’s absence- The Kingpin

  • Frederick Foswell attempts to have Kingpin work for him because he has more experience but he becomes Kingpin’s hostage

  • Peter remembers that he has a duty and responsibility as Spiderman and retakes his suit from the Daily Bugle
