After literally gaining 15 minutes of fame as an entertainer, a man named J. Jonah Jameson, publisher of the Daily Bugle, sullies Spiderman’s name for no reason
Spiderman saves Jonah’s astronaut son John Jameson from a failed shuttle launch infuriating Jonah even more prompting another public attack
Spiderman tries joining up with the Fantastic Four but after finding out they’re a non-profit organization, he leaves
The Chameleon is introduced and thwarted
Peter takes up freelance at the Daily Bugle and sells Jameson pictures of the Vulture who is incarcerated
The Tinkerer is introduced
Atomic physicist Otto Octavius aka Dr. Octopus has an accident at an Atomic Research Center whereby an apparatus possessing four metal tentacles adhere to his body and can now mentally control them. The accident also affects his mind
Doc Ock humiliates Spiderman in their first encounter
After an inspiring speech from the Human Torch, Spidey regains his confidence and beats Doc Ock
Sandman is introduced
Doctor Doom attempts to turn Spiderman against the FF
Flash Thompson, Peter’s rival at school, pretends to be Spiderman and is taken by Doom
Spiderman thwarts Doom while the FF rescue Flash
Peter begins taking notice of the secretary at the Daily Bugle, Betty Brant
Simultaneously, his classmate Liz Allan begins taking notice of him
A humanoid lizard appears in the Florida Everglades and the news spreads to New York
Spiderman confronts the Lizard and finds out from Martha Connors that Lizard is her husband Dr. Curt Connors, a world renowned herpetologist
He lost his right arm in the Vietnam War and attempted to regrow it using lizard DNA
It is successful but also transforms him into The Lizard who is a different being akin to Banner and Hulk
Vulture is thwarted again. Betty and Peter begin a will-they-won’t-they
Peter knocks Flash out of the ring in a boxing match
He fights and beats a robot called The Living Brain
Spiderman arrogantly provokes Human Torch and a rivalry begins. He childishly mocks him because he’s jealous
Electro is introduced
Spiderman deals with The Big Man and his Enforcers
Big Man is a mobster who is actually Daily Bugle columnist Frederick Foswell. He goes to jail
Jameson internally admits to himself that he jealously hates Spiderman because Spiderman is selfless while he is selfish
