Spiderman notices friction between Eddie and Venom when Venom helps Spidey stop radical Neo-luddites

Eddie introspects on his past decisions with Venom and begins feeling uncertainty about his actions

Spidey goes to the Baxter Building to do some research on the symbiote since it was Mister Fantastic who deduced its true nature when it was bonded to Peter. Peter senses the conflict between Brock and Venom and hopes he can get Brock to disregard it permanently 

While going through the files on the computer, he comes across a name- Anton Speizel, who is a scientist the Luddites plan to attack that very same night

Spidey and The Thing show up at the scientist’s demonstration as does Venom, and Spidey takes the opportunity to make Brock question his relationship with the symbiote

Brock goes off by himself and questions whether every act he’s done has really been him or the symbiote. He tells it he does not want it anymore and rejects it

Because of this, the symbiote lets out a silent, psychic, interplanetary wail which affects many humans in an emotionally negative way including feeling sadness, depression, and most unfortunately….wakes Cletus Kassidy from his coma

In upstate NY, a ship full of symbiotes has landed 

Spidey obtains a sonic gun from the Fantastic Four to use against Venom

He investigates a crime in the Nassau Coliseum suspecting Venom and crosses paths with Scarlet Spider

Eddie appears on the scene as well and Spidey prepares a defence but Eddie assures him he’s alone. The 3 team up as Scarlet leads them to Manhattan on a hunch that Venom snatched a scientific weapon. They confront ‘Venom’ who has bonded onto someone else which Eddie is surprised at because the host shows signs he doesn’t want the bond which Venom has always respected

SS has another hunch to go north which Peter is becoming cautious about

The trio head further through upstate NY where they find over dozens of symbiotes and the weapon they’ve taken connected to a larger mechanism

In a scuffle with the symbiotes, they inadvertently enter a portal on the machine by being dragged by a symbiote which had actually been disguising itself as Reilly’s blue/black sweater the entire time

They are teleported through to a planet ruled by symbiotes

Reilly’s symbiote turns out to be Venom itself. It saves the trio by getting them to safety after which Brock decides they must talk. This is how Reilly was able to locate and guess where the symbiotes were able to gather 

Eddie and Venom become one again to get answers after which the symbiote relays its history of how it was judged and imprisoned by its race for desiring to belong with its host rather than control said host and the very same prison he was incarcerated in happened to be transported to Battleworld where it and Spidey had their fateful encounter. It also explains that the symbiotes set up the portal so their entire race could gain access to Earth and use humans as their hosts, eventually drain their life energies, and leave them for dead

Venom/Eddie, Ben, and Peter make it back to the portal where Eddie sets up a disruption wave and activates it so the other two can get through

The symbiotes follow them through the portal by the use of genetic memory after a symbiote tore off part of Venom

The symbiotes take over the planet even taking over heroes such as Captain America but fended off by others such as Black Bolt and Human Torch

At Ravencroft Institute, a provoked guard who has willingly bonded with a symbiote attacks Cletus Kassady who’s awoken from his coma and causes him to bleed thus causing the crazed symbiote Carnage to manifest itself. He kills the host and absorbs the symbiote becoming stronger

The symbiotes destroy the portal after the trio try to find a way to send them back. Just as Peter asks if things can get any worse, a gigantic Carnage appears

As Carnage absorbs even more symbiotes, the trio escapes to MJ’s house to figure out their next plan of attack

Venom’s move is to create the psychic, emotional wail again but more amplified which he does inside Our Lady of Sorrows church as that is the birthplace of Eddie and the symbiote’s relationship. Meanwhile, Ben and Spidey take Carnage out with a gas truck

Venom’s scream becomes a roar after realizing the previous attempt wasn’t working. The emotional despair causes the symbiotes to suicide themselves of which Ben and Peter berate Venom who justifies his actions as a necessity for the salvation of the human race. Venom then gives them the slip and neither decide to pursue

At the conclusion, Venom monologues that he’d do whatever is necessary to save the lives of the innocent and it doesn’t matter if it’s Eddie or Venom who makes that decision
