Avengers Masterworks Vol. 6

  • Hawkeye is part of the Avengers

  • Contains Avengers 51, 52, X-Men 45, Avengers 53-56, Avengers Annual #2, & 57-58

  • An Elder of the Universe, the Collector, has his sights set on the Avengers

  • He captures Giant-Man, Wasp, Thor, and Hawkeye and plans to capture Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Black Panther

  • Collector is defeated and flees

  • Black Panther is framed for the supposed murder of Hank Pym, Wasp, and Hawkeye

  • The perpetrator for Black Panther’s framing is Grim Reaper

  • They are still alive, only paralyzed by Reaper

  • He’s out for vengeance against the Avengers for his brother who was Wonder Man

  • Black Panther clears his name as he saves the 3 Avengers from Grim Reaper who flees

  • He is officially inaugurated into the Avengers 

  • Refer to X-men Masterworks Vol. 5. The Avengers set out to find former members Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to determine if they’re friend or foe now that they’ve allied with Magneto

  • They get into a misunderstanding and battle the X-men after which they defeat Magneto together 

  • Jarvis joins the New Masters of Evil led by someone called the Crimson Cowl for a sum of money

  • The new team includes Melter, Radioactive Man, Black Knight, with new additions Ulysses Klaw and Whirlwind 

  • Crimson Cowl reneges on his deal and knocks Jarvis out with gas 

  • The current Black Knight is a benevolent man named Dane Whitman who is the nephew of Nathan Garrett who was in Zemo’s original team

  • The Masters of Evil, except Black Knight, attack Avengers Mansion

  • Crimson Cowl is revealed to be a robot and the true Crimson Cowl is revealed to Jarvis

  • The Master of Evil capture the Avengers and take them to the Crimson Cowl

  • Klaw attempts to destroy CC with his sonic gun which does nothing

  • CC plans to drop a hydrogen bomb over the Empire State Building 

  • Cowl is the robot after all and had Jarvis under hypnosis

  • The robot’s name is Ultron-5 

  • Jarvis survives an attempt on his life and tells Black Knight to save the Avengers trapped inside the hydrogen bomb

  • Black Knight helps the Avengers get free and take on the Masters of Evil

  • They are defeated and the hydrogen bomb is disarmed

  • Jarvis explains he sold out to save his ill mother and the Avengers forgive him for finding Black Knight to help them

  • Cap meets Hawkeye, Wasp, Giant-Man, and BP at Doom’s castle which is deserted and use his Time Platform

  • They travel back in time to when Cap and Bucky were on Zemo’s drone plane so Cap could truly determine if Bucky died

  • Being the one who sent them back in time while staying in the present, Wasp dozes off and accidentally presses a button that makes them transparent and tangible in the past

  • Zemo sees them but as quick they appear they disappear and Zemo is confused and history plays out as it should

  • The Avengers return to the present to find that history has changed 

  • There are different versions of them who have replaced them and they (the replacements) are shocked to see the originals 

  • The replacements consult a being known as The Scarlet Centurion about what to do with the originals

  • At the same time, the original Avengers use a computer known as a Herodotron which records historical data then uses narrative feedback to relay knowledge and recorded data

  • Through wearing a helmet, the original Captain America sees that Hulk never left after battling Space Phantom

  • Shows the first encounter where Scarlet Centurion appeared to the replacement Avengers

  • He tells them to deal with various super-powered heroes as he determines they are potential threats to society. That includes the Avengers who time travelled who shall appear in their future

  • The replacement Avengers became dictators

  • The original team splits up to find components needed for Doom’s Time Platform to travel through time again

  • The ‘other’ Avengers attack them but are defeated. Scarlet Centurion then confronts and attacks them

  • He reveals he orchestrated everything from mentally influencing Captain America to become obsessed about Bucky’s fate to having Wasp become drowsy and press the button that materialized the Avengers, to allowing the Avengers to detect the ‘other’ team and hypnotizing that team to become dictators

  • Hank Pym manages to get past SC activates the Time Platform

  • The Watcher appears to Captain America to tell him that SC is who Kang became between his time as Pharaoh Rama-Tut when he travelled to the past from 3000 and overshot to 4000 but first made a detour in the 20th century and became SC

  • Watcher also tells him that neither SC nor the Avengers shall remember what has transpired 

  • All the Avengers remember is the journey they too back with Cap to WWII

  • A colorful being known as The Vision attacks Wasp and unexpectedly shuts down

  • All he knows is that he’s on a mission to kill the Avengers

  • He has super strength and can increase his mass and density as well as become intangible 

  • He is an android created by Ultron-5

  • He is conflicted about attacking them and feels they should be allies and tells them he’ll take them to Ultron

  • Vision defeats Ultron alone who explodes into pieces 

  • At an Avengers meeting where BP first meets Iron Man and Thor, Vision is also present desiring to become an Avenger

  • He is tested by Cap, Iron Man, and Thor and impresses each of them by demonstrating his strength and abilities 

  • Vision digs into his memories to find out exactly what he is but Ultron gave him no name, only what he can do

  • Hank Pym recalls working on a synthezoid but can’t remember what happened to the project

  • Through his electronic memory banks, Hank remembers he created Ultron who turned on Hank and made him forget

  • Ultron used Wonder Man’s brain patterns and integrated them into Vision. As a synthezoid he is mentally human with synthetic organs 

  • Vision is welcomed into the Avengers and sheds emotional tears
