We switch back to a more comical setting and tone in the 20th installment of the MCU- Ant-man & The Wasp, of which the title should be a clear giveaway of who the main characters are. This film is very scientific as it deals with a lot of quantum science, the word quantum meaning the smallest amount of energy that can be measured- hence the relevance of the Quantum Realm playing a significant role in a film called ANTman, as that is where Hank Pym’s wife and Hope’s mother Janet disappeared into in a flashback from the first film. In the comics, the Quantum Realm is known as the Microverse and is a gateway to many dimensions. The Quantum Realm’s appearance in Ant-Man is the further exploring of multiple dimensions in the MCU that we were introduced to in Doctor Strange. It is said it will play a critical role in the upcoming Avengers 4 film and can somehow manipulate time and space. 

The film itself is very standalone, the plot being Hank, Hope, and Scott attempting to bring Janet Van Dyne back from the Quantum Realm using a quantum tunnel. They need a part from a black market dealer named Sonny Birch who double-crosses Hope when he attempts to blackmail her for Pym’s technology. Also, a young woman named Ava aka Ghost wants Pym’s lab so she can revitalize herself from quantum instability (meaning her body is giving off as little energy as possible due to an experiment gone wrong when she was a child). She wants to absorb Janet’s quantum energy, which could potentially kill her. All in all, Janet is rescued from the Quantum Realm, she lends a portion of her energy to Ava to keep her instability at bay, and Sonny goes to prison. In the film, there is a former colleague of Hank’s who tried to help Ava whose name is Bill Foster- in the comics he takes on the identity of Goliath which is one of Hank Pym’s various suits along with Giant-Man and Yellowjacket. 

In the end credits scene, Janet, Hope, Hank, and Scott are all working on a way to gather more quantum energy for Ava and as Scott is in the Quantum Realm, the communication between himself and the others goes static………..the 3 have been disintegrated by the very same snap that took so many Avengers’ lives……..
